About McGlaughlin Insulation
McGlaughlin Insulation was founded by Richard “Dik” McGlaughlin in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1987. After being laid off from his position as a computer programmer, Dik wanted to start a business that leveraged his love of the latest technology while also allowing him to spend time with his wife, an administrator for the Bucks County School District, and twelve-year-old son, Ben. He found both of these in the newest technology in home insulation: polyurethane spray foam.
Though new to the business, Dik was immediately known to be different. With his technical background, Dik was able to easily explain to homeowners and builders how each of his products worked and make them feel comfortable with making a sizable investment in their property. “He was a true professional who really knew how to explain things to people,” says his son Ben.
Ben started working for his dad after school, joining him on projects on the weekends around Bucks County. After getting his degree at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, Ben worked briefly for another company before ultimately coming back to join the growing family business on a full time basis.
While working with his dad, Ben saw first hand that clients greatly valued a business owner who had a deep technical knowledge of their products. Following his dad’s example, Ben went to work learning the finer points of the business, eventually becoming GoldStar certified by NCFI, the nation’s leader in sustainable polyurethane products, and later adding a cellulose insulation line, the latest in sustainable home insulation technology. “And I got to spend pretty much every day with my father,” says Ben. “How great is that?”
After several years, Ben transitioned to being the main onsite project manager while his dad stepped back to focus on sales. Dik passed away in 2015.
Today, Ben continues to own and operate McGlaughlin Insulation with the same goal as his father: to use deep technical knowledge and over 30 years of experience to provide cost-efficient insulation solutions to homeowners and builders in Bucks County, Montgomery County and the Philadelphia suburbs.
